Hardship Discounts – Preventing Legal Issues with Hardship Discounts

Routine waivers or discounts of copayments, coinsurance and deductibles by providers is prohibited by law. Discounts should be made only on the basis of demonstrated patient financial need. These discounts however, must not be used routinely and should only be used to address the special financial needs of a particular patient. In this presentation, David Klein, a certified medical coder, auditor and compliance consultant will discuss the correct way to offer hardship discounts to ensure proper compliance with the law.
